Seven agreements worth $150m signed at Gomel investment forum

Seven letters of intent and investment agreements worth $150 million were signed at the 5th Gomel investment forum on May 22-23, deputy chairman of the Gomel oblast executive committee Boleslav Pirshtuk told BelTA. Attending the event were 37 delegations from 21 countries. Foreign guests (150 people) praised the level of preparation of the event. Although the detailed analysis of the main economic event is in store, it is obvious now the results of the work are positive, Boleslav Pirshtuk added. Foreign investors have signed agreements to construct trade and entertainment centre in Zhlobin and launch a production facility processing phosphogypsum at the Gomel chemicals plant. Russian businessmen are keen to build a plant producing gas silicate blocks in the Mozyr region, and Germans plan to launch production of biodiesel from sapropels in the Zhitkovichi region. All in all some 100 investment projects from processing wild-growing berries and mushrooms to aircraft engineering were presented during the forum. We hope that most projects will be materialized as many of them are being negotiated now, Boleslav Pirshtuk said.
