Pripyat Polesie development program to bring prosperity to the region

GOMEL, 7 April (BelTA) – The national program of social and economic development and comprehensive management of natural resources of the Pripyat Polesie will bring prosperity to this region, Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Yakobson told BelTA. The program encompasses the Mozyr, Petrikov, Zhitkovichi and Narovlya regions. The investments to be put in the regional development are estimated at Br1.5 trillion. “This is a huge sum for our rather humble regions; it will be put into economic recovery, improvement of social services, promotion of tourism, and what matters most - an effective management of our lands,” Alexander Yakobson said. The national program of social and economic development and comprehensive management of natural resources of the Pripyat Polesie for 2010-2015 was approved by Decree No. 161 of President Alexander Lukashenko on 29 March. The program developed upon the instruction of the head of state is aimed to ensure a sustained social and economic development of the Pripyat Polesie through the complex use of natural resources and creating comfortable living conditions. The program will be coordinated by the Economy Ministry, the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Some Br547 billion will be allocated for the implementation of the program in the Gomel oblast in 2010-2011. The money will be spent on the fulfillment of 316 tasks which include the introduction into service of 120 facilities in the Mozyr, Petrikov, Zhitkovichi and Narovlya regions.
