Gomel oblast introduces all minimum social state standards in education and healthcare

6 October 2005
Gomel oblast has completed introducing all minimum state social standards in education and healthcare, deputy chairman of the Gomel oblast executive committee Piotr Kirichenko told a press conference September 29.

According to him, there are 5 minimum standards in healthcare and 10 in education. Supplying schools with computers (one PC for 30 students) turned out the most challenging task in promoting state standards.

At the same time Piotr Kirichenko noted that the work in this direction would continue. The deputy chairman cited as an example the oblast program on reequipment of healthcare establishments launched in 2005. The program envisages installing new modern equipment for surgery rooms and intensive care units of Gomel oblast hospitals. The work is slated for completion in 2007. Today the major goal is to improve the quality of services rendered to people within the framework of social standards.
