Exploration well drilling starts at light oil field in Gomel oblast

GOMEL, April 14 (BelTA) – A Belorusneft team launched exploration well drilling No 1 Geologicheskaya at one of the most promising deposits in Belarus, BelTA learnt from the Belorusneft press service. The drilling is operated by highly-experienced specialists of the Svetlogorsk drilling department. The target well depth will total 5060 metres. In late 2008, a new oil field named Geologicheskaya was discovered in the Gomel oblast, at the border of the Svetlogorsk and Rechitsa regions. Well No 1 Pribortovaya with the 4400-4450-metre depth has received light oil with 0.78 grammes per cubic centimeters density. Uniqueness of the Geologicheskaya well is that Belarusian oil-saturated reservoirs were discovered in the so-called catagenetically shielded trap. Today the explorers should define the reserves of the field. In early June 2009, drillers are going to explore well No 5 Geologicheskaya.
