Belarusian Gomelglass to start making energy-effective glass by H2 2016

4 April 2016

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Plans have been made for the Gomel-based glass manufacturing company OAO Gomelglass to start making energy-effective glass by the end of H1 2016, BelTA learned from Belarusian Architecture and Construction Minister Anatoly Cherny after Gomelglass and the German company Schollglas signed a large glass export contract on 4 April.

The contract provides for shipping 8.5 million m2 of glass to Poland and Germany. “The contract is worth €17 million. But in the future we expect shipments may rise to €20 million bearing in mind that Gomelglass is about to finish its retooling campaign and is supposed to start making energy-effective glass before H2 2016,” noted Anatoly Cherny.

The official stated that this year a total of about 30 million m2 of glass will be exported to earn €55 million.

The Architecture and Construction Minister underlined that it is an exclusive contract. The joint industrial processing of glass is under consideration now. “We are going to discuss a project for modernizing the industrial glass production process at Gomelglass,” stated the official.

PLF-type float glass sized 3.21x6.0 meters is the most popular kind in Europe. This is why Schollglas would like Gomelglass to supply 80% of all shipments of this size of glass sheets or about 6.8 million m2.
