Audit services of Belarus and Latvia to contribute to interstate cooperation

GOMEL, 19 August (BelTA) - The state audit services of Latvia and Belarus plan to help the countries expand the areas of bilateral cooperation, the head of the Latvian State Audit Office Inguna Sudraba said after a meeting with chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus Alexander Yakobson in Gomel. “Different services and departments of Belarus and Latvia could step up efforts to exchange experience. This is useful in terms of efficiency and may help the countries find new approaches for solving similar problems. We have something to share with each other,” Inguna Sudraba said. She also believes that there are areas where interstate cooperation may play a crucial role in solving serious economic and social problems. As an example, Inguna Sudraba cited cooperation of the Latvian supervisory agency with Russian colleagues. The spending watchdogs carry out joint audits across the matters that are of interest to both parties. In particular, these include the efficiency of border services, expansion of food exports to Russia and others. Currently, the agencies are working on international treaties on the protection of military pensioners, burial places. Inguna Sudraba stressed that these and other areas can be developed with the assistance of the supervisory agencies of Latvia and Belarus. “We will be dealing with the issues that are important for business of Belarus and Latvia, and to determine where the policy has not been smooth and what can be done so that economic cooperation could develop more successfully,” she said. Besides, the sides outlined new areas of interagency cooperation. In the near future the services are expected to exchange specialists for gaining hands-on experience in human resources management and IT. A delegation of the Latvian State Audit Office led by its head Inguna Sudraba is currently in Gomel Oblast on a two-day visit. Latvian representatives have already met with Chairman of the State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Yakobson. The guests also visited the Belarusian Steel Works and the Olympic reserve center of ice hockey and swimming in Zhlobin and the Gomel Palace and Park Complex where they attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Contemporary Art of Latvia. On 19 August the Latvian delegation is set to visit Spartak Confectionary, the national research center of radiation medicine and ecology, the Vetka Arts and Crafts Museum.
