The program focuses on formation of four leisure and tourist zones, namely, Gomel-Vetka, Polessye-Turov, Zhlobin and Chechersk. They all are united into the Golden Ring of Gomel oblast. This year the oblast budget will allocate as much as Br550 million for the tourism development.
During the next two years the oblast is set to finish construction of hotels in Zhitkovichi and Turov, an aqua park and an ice palace in Zhlobin and to start the construction of an aqua park in Gomel. Historical landmarks will be remolded and the recreation places will be beautified. An open-air museum “Palaeolithic site of primitive men” will appear in the place where the traces of the country’s most ancient settlement have been found.
The program comprises a total of 80 points. Specialists believe that if everything that has been scheduled will be put in life, tourism revenues will mushroom in the region. In 2005 the export of tourist services in Gomel oblast amounted to USD 1 million, or 49.4 per cent more than in 2004.
