The foreign trade surplus of Gomel oblast in January-February amounted to USD 500 million, which is USD 181 million more than on the same time last year. It is also noteworthy that the oblast achieved trade surplus with all its trade partners, including Russia, BelTA was informed in the foreign economic relations department of the Gomel oblast executive committee.
Over the two months the total exports reached USD 673 million, an increase of 28.3 per cent over a year ago, whereas imports fell by 16 per cent to USD 173 million.
The rise in exports was caused by an increase in prices of oil products, ferrous metals, and food. Import of oil, petrochemical and consumer products was cut down.
This year the most dynamic growth was reported in trade with Ukraine. Thus, over the two months the trade turnover with this country more than doubled and reached USD 46 million. Exports went up 3,3 times to reach USD 33.6 million in January-February.
